Recorded on June 6, 21 and July 26.

A 3-part webinar series on cultural competence for state deaf-blind projects, PTIs, and other state-level partners serving families from culturally and linguistically diverse groups. Please share this with relevant family service providers in your state.

Presenter: Sarah Ottow, Director of Confianza

Part 1: The Implications of Cultural Bias and Population Data on the Provision of TA

  • How life experiences limit or enhance your ability to connect with families
  • Identifying state partners who are already engaged in supporting families from culturally and linguistically diverse groups
  • Recruiting cultural ambassadors to support state deaf-blind project outreach efforts

Please view A Language Immersion Story (12-minute video) before watching the recording of the webinar.

Video Description: Moises, a fictional young Spanish-speaking immigrant, faces conflicts in his English-immersion school. He understands math concepts well, but his limited English means he does not have the vocabulary to understand the language of story problems. He struggles, along with his math teacher, to prepare for two weeks of standardized math testing.
