2018 National Webinar: Individualized Instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum

Description

Pairing the Expanded Core Curriculum with project-based learning (also known as inquiry-based instruction) creates an ideal platform to teach students with visual impairments and deaf-blindness. Centered on student-specific needs, these projects teach students to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The presentation includes:

  • Case studies of students in elementary and secondary school
  • Practical tips for IEP goals
  • Portfolio projects for young students or students who have mild to moderate additional disabilities

Learning Objectives

Participants are able to describe:

  • How to develop a portfolio rubric and IEP goals with instructional activities based on student needs in the expanded core curriculum.
  • The basics of project-based learning and how it can promote practical and real-world instruction for students with visual impairments including deaf-blindness
