Watch the following video, which shows a student who is deaf-blind, with a developing language system. Notice how she uses the calendar system with her teacher to review the upcoming week's schedule and how the teacher is using tactile sign language with spoken language support. As you watch, pay attention to the student's reactions. Put yourself in her shoes and ask yourself how her behavior might be misunderstood or misinterpreted? Is she being non-compliant in her calendar conversation? What might she be communicating by suddenly standing up and moving away?
